Foundational Years

 (Nursery, Prep 1, Prep 2, Grades 1, 2)

Globally research from various disciplines has highlighted that the first eight years of human life are critical for a child’s physical, cognitive and socio-emotional development. Research also tells us that even learning delays can be significantly reduced with the help of intervention in the early years.

The aim of the Foundational Years is to bring in a skill-based curriculum to provide strong foundations for holistic development and life-long learning and prepare children for grade school. The curriculum focuses on the six developmental stages when children inquire, explore and discover a great deal about themselves and establish attitudes and competencies related to the learning that stay with them for life.

In order to provide holistic overall development of the child, the curriculum uses ‘play’ as the core pedagogic principle as it is the best-suited method of learning for children during the foundational years. It includes conversations, stories, songs and rhymes, music and movement, art and craft, indoor and outdoor games, field trips, being amid nature and playing with materials and toys.

Emphasis is on; -Conceptual understanding rather than rote learning and learning-for-exams.  -creativity and critical thinking to encourage logical decision-making and innovation. -Development of life skills such as communication, cooperation, teamwork, and resilience.

It also aims to integrate the various domains of development with the expected learning outcomes in ways that are compatible with the natural learning behaviour of young children in different age groups.

Introducing

A LEVELS

(Grades 11 & 12)

The Cambridge A level syllabuses develop a deep understanding of subjects and independent thinking skills. Cambridge International AS & A Level develops learners’ knowledge, understanding and skills in:

  • in-depth subject content

  • independent thinking

  • applying knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations

  • handling and evaluating different types of information source

  • thinking logically and presenting ordered and coherent arguments

  • making judgements, recommendations and decisions

  • presenting reasoned explanations, understanding implications and communicating them logically and clearly

  • working and communicating in English.

Cambridge International A Level is typically a two-year course, and Cambridge International AS Level is typically one year. Some subjects can be started as a Cambridge International AS Level and extended to a Cambridge International A Level.

Learners can choose from a range of assessment options to gain Cambridge International AS & A Level qualifications:

  1. Take the Cambridge International AS Level only. The syllabus content is half a Cambridge International A Level.

  2. Take a ‘staged’ assessment route – take the Cambridge International AS Level in one examination series and complete the final Cambridge International A Level at a subsequent series. AS Level marks can be carried forward to a full A Level twice within a 13 month period.*

  3. Take all papers of the Cambridge International A Level course in the same examination session, usually at the end of the course.

In St. Anne International School, we go for the staged assessment route.

Each subject that a learner takes receives a separate grade.

Cambridge offers around 55 of Cambridge International AS & A Level subjects. However, the subjects offered in St Anne International School are:

  • English (EGP)

  • Mathematics

  • Physics

  • Chemistry

  • Biology

  • Psychology

  • Sociology

  • Economics

  • Business

  • Art & Design

The Cambridge International A Level is reported on a grade scale from A* (highest) to E (minimum required performance). There is no A* grade for Cambridge International AS Levels, which run from grade A to E.
